At Beyond Food, we use food to remove barriers that inhibit individuals from securing financial independence, freedom from isolation, and confidence to build better futures. Food plays a crucial role in helping people to live healthier lives, stand on their own two feet, and understand healthy life choices – both physically and mentally. We support individuals impacted by addiction, mental health, prison leavers, care leavers, at risk of homelessness, or young people outside of mainstream education.
Learning life skills such as cooking provides the building blocks to create a life with purpose.
We support & coach individuals who often need reconnection, inspiration, and encouragement to enable them to aspire to meaningful employment or simply to continue on a positive pathway.
Unemployment rates have increased since the pandemic, and this has been felt most acutely in London by those aged 16-24, who have seen it increase from 16% to 20%. Unemployment rates for all age groups are higher in London than in the rest of England.
Workless Londoners have more diverse needs than those in other parts of Britain. In particular, they are more likely to be under fifty, to have children, to have been born outside Britain, and to be of black or minority ethnic origin.
Many workless Londoners face more than one barrier to work.
Tackling and supporting all of these problems is the only way to truly remove the barriers to enable long-term change and support people in securing fulfilling, long-term employment opportunities.
How you can help
Join us at one of our events
Feast with Purpose! Once a month we invite an extraordinary chef to cook alongside our apprentices. Feast with Purpose is a unique opportunity for the apprentices to learn new skills from renowned chefs and for you to experience an exceptional four-course meal. It all happens at our social enterprise restaurant – Brigade Bar+Kitchen.
Host a party or an event
Corporate or private hire with a social purpose. You can hire a private dining room, the bar or the whole restaurant for your corporate/social event. Enjoy an exceptional dining experience knowing that our apprentices will deliver the menu alongside our in-house team.
Share your skills - volunteer
We all have skills and knowledge that are of value to someone else. If you have something that you think you would like to offer, please let us know. In the past, people have provided individual counselling/ coaching sessions, reading and writing support, IT literacy lessons. Please contact us if you would like to get involved.
Become a regular supporter
Beyond Food Foundation relies on generous donations from our supporters and our incredible network of independent ambassadors and volunteers. Every pound donated makes a real difference to individual lives. Whilst Beyond Food has experienced success and growth; the need to support those at the fringes of society has become more significant. Please contact Jo, our business development manager, to look at different ways that you may be able to support us. jo@beyondfood.org.uk
Pay it forward with ‘one off’ acts of kindness:
Introduce us to someone else
If you know someone who is looking to support a charity, or if you work for a company who supports charities, please make an introduction email to our fundraising lead Jo Littman.
Buy a travel card
One of the most significant barriers for apprentices is affording to travel on public transport; please donate £8 or more to assist an apprentice to travel to and from work for a day.
IT equipment
If you have a working laptop, tablet or phone that you can donate to our apprentices, it will support them to complete their course work and improve communications.
Donate a gift for our auctions
Our supper club events often include a fundraising auction, to help raise money for our program delivery. Please consider providing an item donation or service from your business. It can be as simple as a gift certificate, a signed item of significance, a complimentary night on the town, or a weekend at your favourite resort.
There are so many ways to support Beyond Food Foundation, if you have something in mind that isn’t listed above please contact info@beyondfood.org.uk.
