Queen Elizabeth Gardens is a triangular public space designed to be a vibrant visual experience as well as a pausing point along the journey from St. John’s Churchyard to Potter’s Fields Park and into London Bridge City.
The design of this space revolves around sustainability as well as native planting. At the west apex of the triangle is a statue by Sydney March of Samuel Bourne Bevington, first mayor of Bermondsey, who stands proudly in robes of office in one corner, and dockers’ champion Ernest Bevin in the centre. Behind the pavilion of the Michelin-starred Restaurant Story is an impressive French Lime tree.
Can you find… the coat-of-arms of Bermondsey?
