Climate change is making weather increasingly unpredictable, and storms that were once every hundred-year events are now more frequent, making it more difficult for creaking drains to cope.
Two sustainable drainage raingardens were built by Team London Bridge in 2022 on Snowsfields and neighbouring Melior Street, which take the surface rainwater from the surrounding streets through gullies into large underground water tanks, then slowly into drains at ‘greenfield’ rate.
Native species with some perennials and grasses make this both beautiful and low maintenance. These gardens make less roadspace, more greenspace.
