As part of our commitment to improve the safety of staff in the London Bridge area we are arranging for the Suzy Lamplugh Trust to deliver a free stalking awareness seminar for our member businesses.
Only a small proportion (around 5.6%) of individuals who contact the National Stalking Helpline state they are being stalked by a colleague, however of those individuals who are not, nearly half of all stalkers will present at their victim’s workplace. Research has also found that 50% of stalking victims have curtailed or ceased work as a consequence of being stalked, and those experiencing stalking can display symptoms in line with post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and depression.
It is therefore vital that employers understand how this can affect their staff and what's needed to support them.
This free event is open to businesses of all sectors, and particularly relevant for those in managerial and HR positions. It will cover the topics of:
• Recognising stalking behaviours and differentiating them from other behaviours
• An introduction to perpetrator profiles
• Cyber-enabled stalking
• Understanding why a specialist risk assessment is vital
16 Days of Action Against Domestic Violence 25 Nov – 10 Dec 2019 is designed to help businesses take action against domestic abuse and violence. There is lots that companies can do to aid their employees who endure domestic violence, train colleagues in how to spot the signs and support their co-workers and to protect staff as a whole, with the goal of not just supporting colleagues but securing safety, wellbeing and mitigating financial loss.
Leading businesses in London Bridge have done just that – taking the initiative to run a series of events aimed at their employees and also welcoming other professionals in the area, whose employers might not have the infrastructure for this type of support. The group is made up of EY, Norton Rose Fulbright and Gowling WLG; in association with Team London Bridge, the local business improvement district.
