London Bridge OPEN 2

Following the success of the inaugural art exhibition London Bridge OPEN in January 2019, the second in this ongoing arts programme, London Bridge OPEN 2, will open to the public on Thursday 13th June.

Showcasing outstanding artistic talent in the Borough of Southwark, London Bridge OPEN 2 coincides with The London Festival of Architecture taking place this June with participants exploring the theme of boundaries.

In the fast-regenerating urban landscape of Southwark, London's most historic borough, London Bridge Hotel is housed in an example of grand public works buildings dating from the early 20th century and its former life as a Telephone Exchange. Its traditional facade juxtaposes perfectly with the surrounding contemporary architecture of Renzo Piano's designs for The Shard and the News Building.

To reflect this contrast of architectural but complementary styles, London Bridge Hotel's General Manager, Julio Marques, has curated an exhibition which includes 20 different approaches to architecture using a myriad of methods including wood carving, oil paint on concrete, illustration, London's pubs reimagined, screen printing and painting on silk.

The seventeen artists exhibiting are: Aasiri Wickremage, Adrian Flaherty, Alison Cooke, Ann Dickie, Anna Gibb, Emma Barnie, Cameron Scott, Christina Borg, Gail Seres-Woolfson, Jenna Moore, Kim Youdan, Liz Whiteman Smith, Louise Sheridan, Lottie Stoddart, Octavia Milner, Robert Wilkinson and Shirley Hunter.

All work displayed is available for purchase.

London Bridge OPEN is a new arts initiative devised by London Bridge Hotel in conjunction with Team London Bridge. Created to celebrate its twentieth anniversary by giving back to the local community, OPEN showcases the talents of artists that live, work or exhibit in the Borough of Southwark, showing that art doesn't need to be confined to a traditional gallery space but can be discovered in all kinds of interesting locations.

London Bridge OPEN artworks are displayed throughout the public areas of the hotel and its adjoining Quarter Bar & Lounge, allowing potential buyers the opportunity to admire the works in a more residential-styled setting.
