This session will improve your Deaf awareness, being informed about appropriate language and how to effectively communicate with a Deaf person.
1 in 5 adults are Deaf or has hearing loss. It is likely that every day you cross paths with someone Deaf or Hard of Hearing (HoH). But would you say you are Deaf aware?
We have over 20 years of experience in delivering BSL courses and workshops and we have worked in a huge variety of settings, including the health sector, law firms, and the entertainment industry. One of our Deaf tutors will host the session, with a voiceover from a CSW. They will teach you some interesting facts and tips on how to communicate with a Deaf person and make a more inclusive space. By the end of this interactive session, you will be more Deaf aware and perhaps in the future make someone’s day a little better.
This session will cover and encourage you to think about:
· Appropriate terminology for Deafness.
· How to effectively communicate with a Deaf person
· Basic greetings and question signs in BSL
· Appropriate ways to get a Deaf person’s attention
Please join us for this session using a laptop or tablet, with another device to join the interactive slides. Make sure you have your cameras on and mics off! Remember BSL is a visual language, so this is an important part of the session and as always join the Q&A session at the end, giving you the chance to ask any questions you may have.
