Street photography is a style of photography that aims to capture life as it happens in public spaces for art or enquiry. This involves taking candid pictures of total strangers in the streets, sometimes without them knowing it. The aim is to record the wonderful mosaic that is the human experience. In doing so you will also be doing something more important as street photography could be the ultimate form of self-therapy for the mind, the body, and the soul. Through it you can go for long walks, interact with others in meaningful ways, and make art. It allows you to appreciate the beauty of the mundane and of everyday life.
No prior knowledge of photography is needed to join the workshop, but you will need a camera (any camera including the one on your smart phone will do!).
In this workshop, you will be introduced to this art-form with tips and ideas to help you see what surrounds you and how to best capture it with your camera.
The workshop will be led by Monica Walker (Ph.D.), a fine arts and street photographer (Art Full Frame Street Photography Contest Finalist 2020). She will use her personal experience as a street photographer and a creative and share the many ways in which her connection with this art form has helped her cope with her own mental health and how it has improved her wellbeing. To check out some of her work, please visit https://www.mawalkerphotography.co.uk/, or follow her on Instagram @MonicaAnnWalker.
The group will meet at Team London Bridge Hive at 6:00 pm for a brief introduction before going for a walk around London Bridge to complete a challenge. The workshop will end between 7:30PM and 8:00PM.
