LFA: Walk the Low Line

  • In front of Southwark Tube entrance junction of Blackfriars Rd and The Cut London, England, SE1 8JZ United Kingdom (map)

A guided walk along the mighty Victorian railway through Bankside, London Bridge and Bermondsey.

This guided walk will showcase how interior and exterior spaces are being transformed along Southwark’s mighty Victorian railway viaduct to create the Low Line - a walking route through the alleys, streets and squares of Bankside, London Bridge and Bermondsey.

The walk will highlight recent physical interventions that help embed the viaduct back into the neighbourhoods through which it runs. It will highlight opportunities for a Low Line Commons, bringing greenery and nature to create a linear park, a strategy that won the New London Architecture overall prize in 2021.

You will enjoy the walk as a cross-section of London’s diversity - through renowned visitor destinations, eerie backstreets, and surprising new architectural features.

The London Festival of Architecture is a month long celebration of architecture and city-making, taking place every June across London. The Festival’s mission is to open up discussions around architecture, test new ideas and uncover and promote new talent. What makes the LFA unique is that the LFA programme is people-led and curated by event organisers; we believe in the power of collaboration with the people who live, shape, and truly know London. It’s the breadth and creativity of this community of event organisers that delivers such a varied and engaging programme of events for the festival each June.
