With the aim of improving air quality, an Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) for Central London will be launched by Transport for London on 8 April 2019, covering the same area as the Congestion Charge. Most vehicles including cars and vans will need to meet new, tighter exhaust emission standards (ULEZ standards) or be liable for a daily charge to drive within the ULEZ area.

ULEZ

The chargeable area has an eastern boundary that runs the length of Tower Bridge Road, meaning all businesses in the London Bridge BID are within the Ultra Low Emission Zone.

Cars and Vans that do not meet the new emissions standards will be liable to a £12.50 daily charge, Lorries and Coaches pay a £100 a day daily charge. This will be in addition to the weekday Congestion Charge. You can use the TfL vehicle checkerto see if you will have to pay.

The daily charge runs from midnight to midnight. If you drive within the ULEZ area across two days, for example before midnight and after midnight, you will be liable to pay two daily charges if your vehicle doesn't meet the ULEZ standards.

As part of the London Bridge Cycle Strategy, and in anticipation ULEZ, Team London Bridge is launching a Bikes for Business initiative to encourage the use of Cargo Bikes for deliveries in the London Bridge area, replacing motor vehicles on our streets. As Cargo Bikes are exempt from ULEZ and Congestion Charges and are proven to be as quick or quicker than a light goods vehicle in many circumstances, it makes good business sense to switch. BID members can claim a subsidy to trial the service. Contact jack@teamlondonbridge.co.ukfor more details.
