St Thomas Street Gardens Autumn Overhaul

With public green spaces becoming increasingly important to us in the current climate, Team London Bridge has taken the opportunity to refresh the gardens along St Thomas Street in front of Guy’s Hospital.

The carefully curated design was put together by regular Team London Bridge collaborator Cityscapes, with a strong focus on biodiversity. The planting replicates a natural woodland ecosystem with varying layers and heights so that different plants come to prominence at various times of the year.

The project involved the addition of 1,540 plants and 8 cubic metres of peat-free, 100% sustainable compost to improve planting conditions and better retain water. Ongoing maintenance will be undertaken by our gardening contractor Putting Down Roots, an initiative of St Mungo’s that provides horticultural training to those who are homeless or at risk of becoming so. Other projects we have delivered with Cityscapes and Putting Down Roots include The Greenwood Theatre Pocket ParkGibbon’s Rent Secret Garden and the Stainer Street New Forms Gardens.
