Team London Bridge moves to the Low Line
It was with great sadness that we said goodbye to Team London Bridge HQ on Melior Place a few weeks ago. Not only that but we sadly had to pack up the original London Bridge Hive in the process. However, we’re very pleased to have found a fantastic new home on Holyrood Street, joining the Low Line community as it develops and grows.
The building, 8 Holyrood Street, backs on to the secret garden in Gibbon’s Rent and has a commanding view of the railway tracks leading east from platform 1 at London Bridge Station. The warehouses lining the street date back from the early 20th century, built to service ships arriving in the Pool of London and rail freight at the nearby depot. After WW2 it became part of the Straker Jones printing empire after the war, but towards the end of the century they were caught by the decline in printing and it was bought by current owner Mr T.F. Robertson, who shared the property with tenants Boss & Co, a very famous firm of gun makers.
In a way, 8 Holyrood Street has followed the shifting tides of British Industry – 1900 – 1948 warehousing in the docks, 1948 – 1994 printing and light industry, 1995 to date City of London overspill with a sprinkling of creatives. Team London Bridge joins current tenants Making Music and Nine Lives, amongst others, with neighbours including Fully Charged and the brand new café business about to open at 7 Holyrood Street.
We have reconfigured the London Bridge Hive in the new space and are looking forward to being able to host and offer its use to the community once again in the very near future. The venue is slightly bigger than before with a large reception area.
As with everything we do, we have been as sustainable as we possibly can in the move. Using cargo-bikes to carry furniture, recycling office fittings, acquiring second-hand furniture, fitting recycled flooring and only electric heating throughout.
We can’t wait to welcome you into our new home and being part of the exciting mix of organisations on the Low Line.
Our new address is: 8 Holyrood Street, London SE1 2EL.
