London Bridge - Safe, Secure, Reassured

BID Funded Officer Lee briefs the team ahead of the operation, resulting in five key arrests.

Providing a great place for business is more than having a state-of-the-art office and access to premium coffee.

Being safe and feeling reassured about personal safety is core to being mentally and physically ready to do a day’s work, socialising or getting involved in the plethora of activities we have available in London Bridge.

As we progress into 2025, London Bridge is experiencing a noticeable decline in crime rates, reaching their lowest levels since September 2022. This is bucking city-wide and national trends in a number of crime categories, most noticeably shoplifting and ‘theft from persons’.

This trend is more than just numbers; it reflects the tireless efforts and commitment of the Team London Bridge-funded police officers, our Director of Security and Community Safety, Nick Morant, and security partners in London Bridge.

Significant Reductions in London Bridge Crime

Recent data reveals a consistent reduction across a number of crime categories:

  • Theft: Reported theft cases have decreased by 20%, highlighting the lowest reported theft rates since September 2022.

  • Theft from Persons: We have observed an impressive 39% drop. This reduction also reflects a 13% decline compared to January of last year.

  • Violent crime: Decreased by 24% compared to December.

  • Shoplifting: There were 9 reported incidents, representing a decrease of 31% from the previous month.

  • Sexual Offences: A key statistic for London Bridge. There were zero sexual offences recorded in the area in January, highlighting our excellent ongoing work with licensed venues.

These declines highlight a well-rounded strategy for crime reduction, using proactive policing methods and focused interventions for repeat offenders.

Local Policing Funded by Team London Bridge

This year began on a positive note with notable arrests made by the dedicated Team London Bridge Funded Police officers. In January, their proactive approach resulted in a significant arrest when our Funded Met Police officer witnessed a phone snatching on Tooley Street. Acting swiftly, the officer apprehended the suspect before colleagues or security teams had a chance to intervene. This led to the recovery of stolen items and the successful identification of the victim, ensuring charges for robbery could be pursued.

Meanwhile, our BTP officer has played a vital role in leading pre-emptive operations at London Bridge Station. These coordinated police efforts, involving multiple forces, culminated in the recent apprehension of five individuals—four of which were wanted for drug supply offences—underscoring a community devoted to enhancing safety and security.

Furthermore, partnerships with private security teams have proven invaluable. The collaboration between dedicated officers and private security services has created a robust framework for maintaining safety in the London Bridge BID area.

A Community Commitment

Looking to the future, the decline in crime rates combined with the commitment of our officers lays a solid groundwork for ongoing advancements in safety. Nick Morant continues to coordinate the London Bridge Security and Resilience Forum, in which local businesses engage with key leaders from the Metropolitan Police, City of London Police, and British Transport Police. This initiative is focused on identifying challenges and coordinating strategies to further reduce crime. Additionally, Nick’s monthly intelligence meetings provide an opportunity for private security teams to align resources effectively, utilising the Team London Bridge intelligence platform to share real time information quickly and securely.

Your Safety Priorities

This spring, 28 April to 5 June, businesses will vote in the London Bridge Business Improvement District (BID) ballot to decide whether or not to continue funding the safety and resilience services provided by Team London Bridge, as part of the overall provision of additional services delivered by the BID. In a recent consultation, our stakeholders flagged their support for maintaining these well-established ways of keeping London Bridge safe, in particular, our funded officers and measures to increase safety in the evening.

In the meantime, our team remains vigilant and proactive, assuring the community that safety is our highest priority. As members of the London Bridge business community, your ongoing support and collaboration are crucial to sustaining this momentum. Together, we can create a safer environment for residents and businesses, ensuring that London Bridge continues to be a vibrant and welcoming area for all.
