Team London Bridge Celebrates Social Impact and Responsible Business Practices

On January 29th, around 150 professionals from the local business community gathered at ‘The View From The Shard’ to celebrate the achievements that make London Bridge “A Great Place to Work”.

Along with Sustainability and Community Safety, Team London Bridge (TLB) highlighted the crucial role of social impact in ESG efforts. Sofia, our Responsible Business and Member Engagement Director, stressed the importance of businesses making a positive difference within their companies and the broader London Bridge community.

Strengthening Community Connections

As a Business Improvement District (BID), TLB plays a vital role in connecting businesses with the local community. This collaboration creates opportunities for meaningful partnerships and engagement. Companies recognised at the event were presented with limited-edition honey jars from Potters Fields Park’s bees, acknowledging their contributions to the area.

Giving Back Locally: Volunteering

TLB has worked to address the gap between employees’ desire to volunteer and finding opportunities that align with their skills and availability. Over the past year, many employees participated in volunteer efforts such as helping us install in London Bridge two gardens from the Chelsea Flower Show or water plants during the summer months. Kroll have been offering ongoing support in providing digital skills to homeless individuals at the Manna Centre. Nearly 200 volunteers helped strengthen the community by contributing to such local projects, making a significant impact.

Plants & Limited Edition Honey from Potters Fields Park was presented to businesses as a special recognition of their outstanding social impact.

Giving Back Locally: Donations

In addition to volunteering, businesses in London Bridge have been generous in their charitable giving. Our annual Gift Back appeal collected over 2,700 toys, clothing, and financial donations for local charities. Other types of support also played a role, such as REM offering event space for London Bubble’s fundraiser at The Shard, and London Bridge City implementing a compulsory donation to St Giles Food Bank during the Winter by the River market.

Championing Responsible Employers: London Living Wage

As part of the Council’s initiative to make Southwark a Living Wage Borough, TLB has been tracking London Living Wage-accredited businesses in the area. Despite the challenging economic climate, many businesses have renewed their accreditation last year. Special congratulations to Jacobs and Dods Merit Group for achieving this status in 2024. We continue to encourage more businesses to follow suit and aim for prominent buildings in the area to achieve Living Wage Building accreditation by 2025.

As we move into another year, TLB remains dedicated to fostering meaningful connections and supporting businesses that strive to make a positive impact in the London Bridge community. Find out more or get in touch with our Responsible Business Director, Sofia.
