
What is a mentor?
A mentor is a person who will help the young person achieve their goals on a 1:1 basis. They will support and encourage, and in time help the young person become more confident. They will help discover new opportunities e.g. go to the gym, find a job, go to university.
You will be interviewed and DBS checked, and there will be training and spervision available throughout in order to make sure that you are best prepared for this role.
What kind of things would you do together?
- Talk about goals for the future and how to can reach them
- Help with CV writing
- Looking for work experience or universities on the internet
- Going to the Job Centre together
- Thinking about finances and practical support e.g. filling out benefits forms
- Try new things together e.g. going to a museum in central London
- What is the time commitment?
Ideally meet up with the young person every two weeks for at least one hour, this would last for six to twelve weeks. In between, you cn keep in touch via telephone, email or text if you wish.
