Community Calling - mobile phone charity donation

Environmental sustainability charity Hubbub have launched a new project in partnership with O2 that helps to reduce electronic waste whilst also tackling digital exclusion in Southwark, and they’re looking for local businesses to participate.

‘Community Calling’ encourages people to donate their old and workable smartphones where, with the help of Community Southwark, they will be given to the vulnerable and isolated such as the elderly, asylum seekers, survivors of domestic abuse and those from low income households.

As a business there are a variety of ways you and your colleagues can support this:

  1. Use your office as a drop-off point for staff as and when they visit

  2. Encourage colleagues to donate their spare phones from home by freepost

  3. Order a courier collection if you have a bulk-load of old company smartphones already at the office

All of this and much more information is available here, and you can also contact Emily Watson from Hubbub  Emily@hubbub.org.uk . They’ve already made a great start with over 600 phones re-homed, and looking to reach 1500; hopefully you can help.
