Southwark Council to announce additional business grants

With the latest restrictions (see below) placing additional financial strain on Southwark businesses, Southwark Council plan to announce a further round of the Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) in the coming days.

They will announce further information as soon as possible and full details will be published on our COVID-19 business support and information web page soon as it is available.

New Tier 4 restrictions

On Saturday, the Prime Minister announced new Tier 4 restrictions to take effect from today (Sunday 20 December). These include requiring people to stay at home (except for specific purposes), preventing gatherings between households and closing certain businesses and venues.

These stronger restrictions are needed because the virus is now spreading rapidly. The rates in London are very worrying. The number of people in Southwark with COVID-19 doubled last week, and London has seen a sharp increase in hospital admissions.

All non-essential retail, leisure facilities, entertainment venues and personal care businesses such as hair, beauty and nail salons must close. Hospitality venues like restaurants, bars and pubs must close, but can still provide takeaway and delivery services. You can find more details of which businesses are now required to close on the government’s website.
