Sainsbury's has turned one of its local stores into its first 'dark' convenience store, for a bicycle delivery service trial.

The Blackfriars branch closed temporarily, but has now been turned into a hub for online orders. Those self-isolating or unable to get to a store will be able to order up to 20 items from a range of around 400 products through Sainsbury's Chop Chop app and have them delivered to their doorstep in as little as an hour.

Chop Chop is currently offering a promo code (FREECHOP) which gives free delivery on an order of more than £15. The regular delivery charge will be £4.99.

“Demand for home delivery has reached unprecedented levels and we are doing all we can to find new ways to serve more of our customers,” says Clodagh Moriarty, Chief Digital Officer at Sainsbury’s.

The service is currently available within 3km of Blafriars. If this trial is successful, Sainsbury’s could potentially expand to other closed stores across the UK.
