This new Southwark and Lambeth business campaign is helping local companies ‘Build Back Cleaner Air’ after lockdown.

London Bridge businesses can support the campaign by completing this 5-minute online survey about your views on air pollution by 5th July.

Guy’s & St Thomas’ Charity (GSTC) is working hard to combat air pollution in the boroughs of Southwark and Lambeth where both hospital sites are based. It has teamed up with charity Global Action Plan, which has been engaging with businesses (Team London Bridge sits on the steering group), local residents and community groups since April to help bring life back to Southwark and Lambeth streets in a way that doesn’t bring back air pollution.

The Build Back Cleaner Air campaign has learnt that 50% of residents feel the air was cleaner when lockdown was imposed, and those that are most vulnerable feel these benefits most. However, these air quality gains are already being lost.

A vast majority (78%) of Southwark residents want Southwark based business to help cut pollution and traffic. Global Action Plan has spoken to a number of businesses and BIDs to create a new web resource page, and what better time to reflect on changes we can make as businesses than during this business recovery period.

Six themes have been identified - including pollution-free deliveries and active commutes - to help us to get back to business in a way that keeps coronavirus at bay and keeps air pollution down (which can cause and worsen health conditions which make people more vulnerable to COVID-19).

The webpage will be updated continuously with links to free programmes and initiatives and webinars, many by BIDs, that local businesses can take advantage of over the months ahead. Larger companies can also access free materials from the nationwide Business for Clean Air campaign.
