Think Green this Black Friday
On average, 40% of office deliveries are for personal items. During the festive period this increases to a whopping 65%, which has a significant effect on congestion, pollution and road safety (in addition to added strain on loading bays and reception teams).
We’re encouraging London Bridge businesses to promote a reduction in office deliveries, not just for Christmas but as a New Year’s Resolution.
Here are some ideas for how your business can help make a positive change in online shopping habits, inspired by our business community:
Promote Click and Collect, so staff pick up their packages nearer to home – convenient and often free. This way you can avoid carrying parcels on the train, and vans don’t need to sit in traffic to deliver it. This is the best we have in London Bridge, without any locker service. This service is most intuitively used directly through the website where items are purchased.
Strongly discourage personal deliveries. Ask staff collect their own packages from the sorting room.
Offer flexible home working arrangements, so packages can be delivered at home
Take the plunge and ban personal deliveries altogether- there are plenty of alternative arrangements in place.
Another green alternative is to do your Christmas shopping in all the great London Bridge shops – get a copy of the Guide to Christmas in London Bridge for inspiration.
Help us tackle congestion and air pollution so we don’t have a black Christmas! Please tell us how you do – we’d love to learn from you and share best practice.
