SC1 Life Sciences Hub comes to London Bridge

London Bridge finds itself at the heart of one of the most exciting medical and science collaborations the capital has seen in modern times. SC1 is south central London’s emerging life science district. It aims to transform healthcare, accelerate innovation, and tackle big problems in order to make a healthier future a reality for all of us.

Founded by King’s Health Partners, Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation, and Lambeth and Southwark councils, SC1 brings together local services with leading institutions and innovative businesses in a world renowned location.

Within SC1 there are ambitious plans underway that will create significant new spaces for health and life sciences, increase employment opportunities, support new innovative business, develop cultural programmes, and build a world recognised home for life sciences innovation.

SC1 in London Bridge

SC1 is gradually taking shape within London Bridge. The recent approval of a life-sciences led, mixed-use development at Vinegar Yard on St Thomas Street and the selection of a preferred development partner for a new Snowfields Quarter beside Guy’s Hospital means that two significant new parts of the SC1 community are underway in our area.

Vinegar Yard, designed by KPF, developed by CIT

Designed by architects Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, the Vinegar Yard development will be one of the first buildings within the BioMedical Hub on the London Bridge Campus.

Snowsfields Quarter will be developed by Oxford Properties, and partners Reef Group will invest approximately £350 million to create a 300,000 sq ft life sciences hub with world-class lab facilities across three new buildings in a prime health innovation cluster. The 0.88 acre site sits adjacent to the Guy’s campus in London Bridge, which already hosts world-class medical and research institutions including King’s College London and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust.

Science and Medicine in London Bridge

When Team London Bridge launched the London Bridge Plan in 2015 we identified the potential for a flagship ‘Eds and Meds’ cluster in London Bridge, to build on the area’s rich heritage in these areas the pioneering and prestigious institutions that call it home today. To help realise this we established the London Bridge Medi-Culture project.

London Bridge Medi-Culture and it’s partners will support the development of the SC1 district with a programme of engagement and events.

Team London Bridge is a founding funder of SC1.
